Florina
Florina (Φλώρινα)
Florina in the mountains is very close to the Former Yugoslavian border, and a place regularly overlooked by tourists. It is friendly and pleasant place, with some good museums and churches. It also offers great food – the region is known for the red peppers grown in the region and these are worth trying. The city is also home to a large casino and hotel complex.
The city is also the only place in Greece with regular access to the Prespa Lakes National Park, a lovely hilly green expanse surrounding the largest lake in Greece. On the lakes edge, the village of Psarades sits, a traditional village, once thriving now has less than 200 inhabitants. The village is a demonstration of villages of old, the quaint bluestone cottages on the side of the lake invite the visitor to stay and relax.
